This is likely going to be your best option if you are able to afford it and there is strong animosity in the relationship.

McKENZIE FRIENDS - Another great option is McKenzie Friends. They are usually not legally trained but have usually been through divorce themselves, been trained on the full process and can provide excellent advice and support at a fraction of the cost. They are especially good with official forms. They cannot represent you in court, but can sit next to you and tell you exactly what to say and do.

COST: Between £70 and £100 an hour. Usually around £3,000 for a full divorce.

AMICABLE - If you are still on speaking terms, and especially if you have children, Amicable is a great option. They work with both of you to make the process as painless as possible, and have a 96% success rate in avoiding court, focusing on therapy and mediation.

COST: Packages start from £900 but includes you and your former partner.

LEGAL AID - Legal aid is usually only available in England and Wales for cases involving Domestic Abuse (including financial abuse), Child Protection, Homelessness and Mediation.
